Marauders Football: Jordan Velarde’s first start compared to quarterbacks past

Thursday evening, Jordan Velarde started his first game for the University of Mary. Velarde, a junior from Blythe, Calif., is a little different compared to Marauders quarterbacks in the past because he’s a transfer.

The 6-foot-6 signal caller played for Chaffey College last season, however, he didn’t have the most successful sophomore season. Velarde threw one touchdown and eight interceptions in eight games with the Panthers.

But his first game with the Marauders was a success despite his one interception. Velarde made solid throws on the run and didn’t look flustered. His legs, size and arm strength should give UMary fans a tickle, too.

Velarde had one of the more impressive first starts in a Marauders uniform, some former quarterbacks did not. Here’s a list of past UMary quarterbacks and what they did in their first start with the Marauders:
